Alex and Karl’s tea party wedding at Haughley Park Barn, Suffolk

I’ve been a bit behind with my blogging recently and I now find I have a few weddings to show you from the latter part of 2011, which already seems so long ago :)

It was clear from the first moment I met Alex and Karl in their home in Ely that their wedding would be fun and informal and it certainly didn’t disappoint! I’d stayed the previous night in a local B&B close to their venue (I always do if I need to travel more than an hour’s drive away from home – just in case). Having started the day with a tasty breakfast, I booked out and drove the few miles to Haughley Park ready for action! It was a beautifully sunny and warm day. The family-owned venue is nestled in huge grounds and the glass sculptures created by Danny Lane and placed around the venue really add to the elegant and contemporary look.

After the ceremony itself, we were given full use of the exterior of the house and grounds (including the fantastic kitchen garden) and with plenty of time for photographs allocated (oh so important), we created plenty of memorable images – it helped that Alex and Karl have such a great sense of fun and were so up for pretty much anything – even an impromptu race! This certainly shines through in these photographs…

They had spent a long time putting all the finishing touches for their reception together, including vintage tea-sets as table centres, hand-printed luggage labels within a suitcase as their table plan, a picnic hamper and bunting everywhere in the barn – it all looked fantastic and everyone had a whale of a time – which is what weddings are all about! It was also lovely to see that the couple had used one of their gorgeous e-shoot images (from when we’d met at Wimpole Hall – click here to see it) in a frame to complete their family gallery on the cake table – many of my couples choose to use their e-shoot images in this way.

My assistant for the day was Charlotte Wessels, who did a sterling job on the wings – thanks Charlie x

Please enjoy these images and feel free to comment!

Poundon House – Ryan and Bryony’s stunning Indian/English wedding

Saturday saw record breaking temperatures for October 1st – no-one expected to be sweltering under sunny skies but we all did and what a day was had! I couldn’t wait too long to share these.

After Bryony and Ryan’s engagement shoot at Poundon House in Oxfordshire (if you missed it, click here: http://www.kimhawkins.co.uk/blog/2011/08/a-poundon-house-e-shoot-with-bryony-and-ryan/), I knew just how good they would look on their big day and I was soo right! This was a wedding of two venues, two ceremonies, three outfit changes and two pairs of shoes (for Bryony – what more could a girl want on her wedding day)? First was the civil ceremony in the house itself with Bryony wearing an elegant sand patterned sari, after which the couple changed (Bryony in a wedding dress with sheer veil) for their trip in a vintage Lagonda sportscar for the religious ceremony in the beautiful village church of Marsh Gibbon. For the reception, Bryony changed once more, this time into an electric blue sari which was simply stunning. The massive marquee in the grounds of Poundon hosted the reception, which included some of the tastiest Indian food I’ve eaten!

Many thanks to Martin Price who, at very late notice stepped in to join me as my assistant and second shooter for the day.

Colourful, joyful and an absolute pleasure to photograph, here are some real highlights of Bryony and Ryan’s wedding…

Fanhams Hall Hotel – Sam and Chris’s wonderful (wet) wedding!

This summer has seen more rain than anything else, it seems and it was torrential on the morning of the day Sam and Chris got married at Fanhams Hall Hotel in Ware but as usual, I had a backup plan should the weather not clear. Fanhams is a beautiful venue but it also has large interior spaces where, if the worst comes to the worst, photographs can be taken with lots of light and more importantly, out of the weather! Luckily, just as the ceremony in the fabulous Great Hall came to an emotional end, the clouds parted for long enough to get all the group shots in the bag.

Once the rain began again, I advised Sam and Chris that we would get their portraits later in the day and so it was that after the meal and the speeches, the sun finally broke through and gave us the most beautiful golden evening light – and away we went!

Sam and Chris chose to have a modern black and white colour scheme and a Rat Pack inspired look for the boys, complete with dickie-bows! The last shot of the couple shown here (taken just after their first dance) is one they particularly wanted – the Frank Sinatra-tie-undone-jacket-over-the-shoulder look!

Please enjoy looking through these images…

A Caswell House wedding – Beth and Tom

Well, what a fantastic day everybody had last Saturday – the weather was beautiful, the venue is stunning and Beth and Tom looked fantastic wherever I took them! There were loads of little quircky details, including a cake table that showcased their guests’ homemade cakes, mismatched tea sets for the tea party which followed the speeches and a giant teacup, created in the mad mind of Beth’s brother-in-law! Please enjoy some images from this wonderfully fun and enjoyable wedding….

First look – Abbie and Matt at Tuddenham Mill, Suffolk

This was my third wedding at t’Mill in two months – it’s such a beautiful place to get married and have a great party, even when it IS freezing cold as it was last Friday when Abbie and Matt tied the knot! They also booked my photobooth, which was the most succesful one I’ve ever done and I didn’t stop shooting from start to finish! Shots from that are yet to come – Abbie and Matt’s guests – be warned!

First up, Abbie’s absolutely gorgeous Jenny Packham dress…

First look – Stephanie and Paul’s autumn wedding at the Comper Chapel

This wedding was a corker!

Last Friday (after a week of rotten, windy and damp weather) was a beautiful autumnal day – perfect for the stylish wedding of Steph and Paul at the stunning venue of the Comper Chapel within the All Saints Pastoral Centre in Hertfordshire.

More to come, folks but for now, here’s a sneaky peek of the gorgeousness…

Helen and James’ late summer wedding at Offley Place

Whew! This is the first blog piece I’ve had time to add in the past week or so! Although my wedding season is beginning to wind down a bit, my time is spent this time of year catching up with happy couples after their honeymoons, helping them to choose their images and then designing those images into albums for them. I also have been busy getting my new studio ready to open – more on that in a couple of weeks but suffice to say, I’m really excited about it!

Anyway, onto a great wedding…the pre-wedding shoot I did with Helen and James took place in Bristol a few weeks back and it was obvious how much in love they are – they were also very natural and relaxed in front of my camera, which allowed me to feel confident on the day of their gorgeous wedding that we would capture some stunning images of the two of them. The prep, wedding and reception all took place at a fantastic country house hotel near Hitchin in Hertfordshire called Offley Place (the food’s great too)! The venue is stunning and has loads of little nooks and crannies that I love so much – it allows me to use places that other photographers may not find or decide to use – but they do allow some fantastic images to be created. Have a look and see for yourselves….

Petra and Ian’s beautiful wedding at Quendon Hall

Last weekend I had the honour of shooting the wedding of Petra and Ian in the wonderful surroundings of Parklands, Quendon Hall near Sawbridgeworth. The unique thing about this venue is apparent in the big group shot here – yes, that’s deer roaming freely in the background – fantastic!

This wedding also features my choice of bouquet of the year - and the lady who created every one of the flower arrangements you see here is not even in business but simply makes them for friends and family!

I had a really good blast with them on the day and look forward to helping them choose the images for their funky Elements album when they return from honeymoon. Enjoy this selection of Petra and Ian’s images…
